Thursday 4 June

6pm in Unison, 18 Albion Street.

Following on the meeting with the Gude Cause women from Edinburgh last week, we propose to set up a Glasgow group, and to have a first meeting in Glasgow on Thursday 4 June, at 6pm in Unison, 18 Albion Street.

Many thanks to Alison for booking the room. Fiona or someone else from the Edinburgh group will be there to briefly introduce the campaign.

The main purpose of this meeting would be to expand our network in Glasgow/West of Scotland, and start brainstorming about how we could contribute to the Gude Cause event in the autumn, and possibly organise other events as well.

Please invite along anyone else who is not yet on our mailing list and who may be interested. And bring along names and email addresses to the meeting, so that we can update our contact list. We could at some point set up a google or yahoo mailing list.

If  you’d like to come along and also be included on our mailing list please email Valerie,  valeriewright10@googlemail.com

It’s a gude cause

Jane Lewis

Chorus

Freedom from oppression, liberation

It’s a gude cause, working for equality

It’s a gude cause, women, sound your voice

1. Marching in violet, white and green

A pageant of creative conviction

For the women old and young

For the women yet unborn

For us all to rise and take our rightful place

Chorus

2. Better to do than wish it done,

For we cannae afford to sit and blether,

Never feart to break the law,

Scottish outrages galore,

There’s no prison can deter the Scottish women

Chorus

3. What’s gude for John is gude for Janet

We were both born equal on this earth

Gude enough to cook the tea

With the bairns upon her knee

Gude enough to take decisions on our futures

Chorus

4. Ye maunna tramp on the Scottish thistle,

The flower’s bright the stem is thorny,

And the power of her song

Will be rising ever strong,

For there’s nothing that can crush her strength and spirit

Chorus

5. A gude cause maks a strong arm,

When wisdom and passion come together,

For we’ve justice in our feet

As we march down Princes street,

Men and women shall be equal in this land

Chorus

A gude cause maks a strong arm
